Showcasing ART by Alex Pruner
Showcasing ART by Alex Pruner

Alex Pruner (b. 1962, NYC) is a resident of Houston, Texas and Park City, Utah, and is an emerging surrealist painter.
Her 40-year background in corporate roles in finance and C-suite management formed a context that defines her paintings. Equipped with a narrative based on years of observing work dynamics, the artist is currently working on a series of surrealistic work that incorporates anthropomorphism of common corporate imagery – from neckties to office supplies. These icons harken back to bygone days while providing symbols of recurring corporate dynamics. Influenced by her time in the Southwest, Pruner also has developed a number of works with cowboy imagery.
As a child, Alex envisioned following in her father ’s footsteps and pursuing a career in the arts. Her father, Fred Garbers (1930 – 2017) was an accomplished abstract expressionist in Manhattan. However, while attending Brown University and working parttime as a graphic artist, Alex opted instead to study Economics. Following graduation she embarked on a career in the financial markets and ultimately became a co-founder and CFO of a leading investment bank. Following her retirement as a CFO in late 2018, Pruner again picked up her paint brush.
Largely self-taught, she has studied at The Art Students League in New York, as well as the Glassell School at the MFAH.
